Mauna Kea Resort and Mauna Lani Resort: Two New Home Listings

Last week I had the opportunity to visit two beautiful Big Island resort homes, one at the Mauna Lani Bay Resort and the other at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort.  Both resort settings along the ocean off the Kohala Coast are equally beautiful yet different enough to be preferred for their unique characteristics.  Homeowners of each resort will share why they prefer their home resort; why each suits their preferences, but all agree that both are truly wonderful places to call home.  In fact, one especially besotted homeowner expressed the feeling that so many of us share; how fortunate we are to call the Big Island of Hawaii home!

Thursday’s Open House at 49 Black Sand Beach, an enclave of only 49 (really 48) homeowners sharing a private gated entry to homes on spacious lots along quiet, shady streets and the fabulous Clubhouse overlooking Honu’apae Bay.   Reminiscent of territorial designs that favored European country style homes, the  location along the golf course did not require that the design be strictly ocean view orientated.  An interior kitchen was very “Country” style with lots of counter, cabinet and pantry space.  The kitchen window overlooked stellar gardens that invite you to come, sit here on this lovely bench and meditate in tropical magic.  The ground floor master is used as a dual office space by the current owners.  They prefer to use an upper level ensuite bedroom with better ocean views.    The two upper floor bedrooms are connected by a wide “bridge” that doubles as a library.  The detached guest suite may be to inviting; guests will never leave.  The infinity pool beckoned a running leap from the great room, but proper Open House etiquette did not allow my fantasy to become real.   All the finish materials were attractive and excellent quality; lighter than what has become the standard in recent construction which was surprisingly refreshing.  Not a new home, built in 2003, but one of the newer listings at Mauna Lani Resort’s 49 Black Sand Beach.

Friday’s visit to this awesome home at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort began by walking into a truly dramatic resort view.  One’s gaze skirts through the entry of a truly great room skimming over an iridescent infinity pool to green golf fairways dropping off to stunning coastline views that leaves one gasping  “Wow”!  This well designed home is the perfect dual purpose home; one where a couple can feel at home there alone or opening it to family and guests who enjoy their own space on the other side of the home.  Of course there is lots of room to move in with family; kids, dogs and all.  The sheltered interior courtyard connects the media room and the nearly enclosed space used for a gym to the main home and the guest wing.  High quality finishes  complete the picture perfectly.  Sold furnished, the furnishings and artwork are delightful.  What a place to come home to!

Days like these, when homes like these are shared, with the hope that one of us will bring a buyer, make me appreciate once again the good fortune to have chosen this profession on this Island and to call it home!
