9th Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival is Saturday August 19, 2017! 

Royal Kona Resort celebrates the legendary Mai Tai cocktail at the 9th Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival. Watch as over 20 of the world’s top bartenders converge on the Big Island of Hawaii to mix it up in a battle for the title of World’s Best Mai Tai and a $10,000 cash prize.


Festival Highlights Include:

🔅Mai Tai Marketplace: Shop for crafts and island treats from local artisans and merchants from 11am-4pm

🔅Battle of the BBQ: Taste and vote for Hawaii’s best barbecue from 11am-2pm

🔅Pool Party: Listen to live music from local Hawaiian artists by the pool from 2:30pm-4pm

🔅Mai Tai Mix-off: From 4:30pm – 7:30pm watch bartenders from around the world vie for the title of World’s Best Mai Tai and cash prizes. First place winner receives $10,000, second place winner receives $5,000, and third place winner receives $2,500.

Keiki of all ages are invited to Touch a Truck at Kona Commons on August 12 from 10 am to 12 noon! Explore big trucks and meet the people who operate them! Trucks include emergency vehicles, construction trucks, tow trucks and more!

Touch a Truck offers kids a hands-on opportunity to explore working trucks of all types. Children of all ages are invited to creatively explore the trucks with guidance from the professionals who use the trucks. Meet the people who build, protect and serve on the Big Island.

Bring the family to Touch a Truck and enjoy free keiki activities, a waterslide and prize giveaways. Event presented by Kuleana Education.

Kukuau Studio is hosting a monthly blues series called, BLUES BY THE BAY with Grammy nominated and Na Hoku winning guitarist, Larry Dupio & a rotating line-up of friends every second Thursday of the month.

Kahilu Theater is offering three performing arts summer camps for Hawai‘i Island youth this summer!

🔸Let’s Dance! (Summer Dance Camp)

Directed by KPAC Director, Angel Prince, Let’s Dance! teaches technique and choreography classes in Contemporary Dance, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Jazz. 

Ages 7 to 16

Monday through Friday, 10am – 2:30pm

June 19 through June 30

Technique classes in Contemporary Dance, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Jazz

Daily Pilates and yoga class

Optional classes include: Acting, Anatomy, Improvisation and Choreography, Makeup, Salsa

🔸Adventures in Polynesia

Directed by Kalena Ohilo, Adventures in Polynesia is inspired by the motion picture Moana and focuses on Acrobatics, Tumbling, Vaulting and Aerial Silks.

Ages 5 to 12

Monday through Friday, 10am – 2:30pm

July 3 through July 14

Inspired by the Motion Picture MOANA this camp will focus on Acrobatics, Tumbling, Vaulting and Aerial Silks infused with Polynesian Music, Implements, and Dance. A mix plate of fun and excitement. In addition to indulging their powerful creative energies in acrobatics and instrumentals, students will create their own “Moana Skirt” and Maori Poi Balls. Come and journey with us in an Adventure in Polynesia!

Final performance – Friday, July 14, 5p

Note – There is no class on July 4, that will be made up on Saturday, July 8
 🔸KPAW (Kahilu Performing Arts Workshop)

Directed by former Kahilu Youth Troupe member, Marena Dunnington, KPAW focuses on teaching stage skills necessary for musical theatre, with singing, acting and dancing as the three primary disciplines.

Ages 7 to 12
Monday through Friday, 10am – 2:30pm

July 17 through July 28

Daily classes in Singing, Acting, and Dancing

Additional classes: Play Writing, Storytelling, Makeup, Improvisation, Accents and Dialects

Final performance – July 28, 5pm
