Kealii Reichel & Hawane Rios Benefit Concert for the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua is on Saturday October 20, 2018!

Kings’ Shops is happy to join the efforts of the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua (HCCOH) to put on a fabulous night of fundraising through food, libations and the beautiful voices of Hawane Rios and world famous Kealii Reichel. Darde Gamayo will emcee the night’s festivities. All proceeds raised from ticket sales will go directly to the center via The Hilo-Hamakua Community Development Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the acting fiscal agent for HCCOH.

Tickets for the concert only are $50 each. The concert will start at 7 p.m. Seating will be by sections with no assigned seating. You will get seated in your sections on a first come, first serve basis.

Tickets for food tastings from our fabulous Kings’ Shops restaurants and Kohala Coast neighboring restaurants will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill entrance of Kings’ Shops. We will feature Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill, Foster’s Kitchen, A-Bay’s Island Grill, Tommy Bahama Restaurant, Mai Grille by Chef Hess and Lava Lava Beach Club. The $100 ticket gets you the food tastings, entrance to the beer & wine garden at center stage with live entertainment from the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua and preferred seating for the concert. Again, seating will be by sections and no assigned seating, but the preferred section will be closer to the stage than general seating. You will get seated in your sections on a first come, first serve basis.

The $150 ticket will allow you to enjoy the food tastings, beer & wine garden, premium seating for the concert (within the first 2 rows) with no assigned seats, and a personal meet and greet with Kealii Reichel at a private champagne reception after the concert. Tickets are very limited.

$100 & $150 ticketholders check in at the reception table at the Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill entrance starting at 5:15 p.m. You will need to provide your paper ticket, online ticket printout, or ID for will call tickets to gain entrance – no exceptions. Food tents and the beer & wine garden will shut down promptly at 7 p.m.

$50 ticketholders check in at the reception table near Michael Kors starting at 6:45 p.m. You will need to provide your paper ticket, online ticket printout, or ID for will call tickets to gain entrance – no exceptions.

A Hawai‘i Homecoming

The Kamuela Philharmonic’s A Hawai‘i Homecoming celebrates the concert return of Anthony Arnone, acclaimed cellist, to Hawai‘i. Known throughout the islands, Mr. Arnone will perform one of Antonín Dvorák’s most famous works of music, Cello Concerto in B minor. This work is one of three pieces Dvorák composed in the United States – Cello Concerto, American Suite, and Symphony No. 9 from the New World. Showcasing the fantastic talents of Mr. Arnone is not the only highlight of this performance. Many of the talented musicians of the Philharmonic will be featured in Béla Bartók’s Rumanian Folk Dances. A compilation of folk tunes Bartók discovered through various gypsy encampments throughout Eastern Europe are presented in masterful form.

A Taste of the Hawaiian Range Agricultural Festival ~ September 29th!   Leave a comment

The island’s largest agricultural showcase is returning in 2018 with a new twist at a different location in Waimea, Hawai‘i Island!

Taste of the Hawaiian Range will be Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at Mana Christian ‘Ohana (Old Kahilu Town Hall) and the adjacent YMCA Minuke Ole Park in Waimea. The 2018 Taste will offer all-day agricultural-themed fun and educational activities before culminating with an evening tasting event showcasing locally produced food.

▪️Agriculture Festival:

The 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Agriculture Festival offers livestock displays, educational exhibits, local product sampling and sales, food trucks and beverages.

“Find out how to attract bees to your landscape, visit a “plant doctor” for help on garden questions and taste-test local beef jerky, breadfruit, honey and more,” suggests event co-chair Jeri Moniz.

Keiki can enjoy agricultural-themed activities and games; pony rides will be available for a nominal fee. Hawai‘i Island 4-H youth will offer a display of farm animals and a booth on how youngsters can join the project-based organization 4-H is marking 100 years in Hawai‘i during 2018.

▪️Indoor Classroom Presentations:

Learn how agriculture is the science, art and practice of producing food at agricultural and culinary-themed presentations 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the five-classroom complex behind the Mana Christian ‘Ohana hall. In addition, there will be an all-day exhibit of invasive species.

Open to the public and geared to farmers, ranchers and culinarians, the free presentations will include Q&As. Talks will cover a wide range of topics: the Food Safety Modernization Act, invasive species, federal worker protection standards on proper pesticide use and safety, Hawai‘i tea production, agriculture technology with Smart Yields, best-use practices for beef carcass utilization and the cutting-edge GMO research and technology involving CRISPR-Cas9.

Leading the 2018 installment of Cooking Pasture-Raised Beef 101 is Chef Edwin Goto of Waimea’s Village Burger and Noodle Club. He will demonstrate how to prepare beef flank steak and pork belly 2:30-4 p.m.; the activity offers sampling. Tickets are $10 at the door or online.

▪️Evening Taste:

Featuring 20 culinary stations preparing pasture-raised meats and local produce, the 5:30-7:30p.m. Taste gala is both inside and out of the Mana Christian ‘Ohana hall and is open to 500 attendees.

Gala tickets are $50 online and at Parker Ranch Store; they will sell for $60 at the door if available.
