8th Annual Uncorked Food & Wine Festival takes place on Saturday, November 11th at The Shops at Mauna Lani! 


The Shops at Mauna Lani’s “Uncorked” Food & Wine Festival is an experience in great taste—from rich jazz to fine wines and delicious gourmet foods—on Saturday, November 11, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The annual event is a benefit for the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawai‘i Island (VASH) which assists Hawai‘i visitors touched by adversity during their stay, from lost tickets to medical emergencies.

The evening stars multitalented vocalist Binti Bailey, whose diverse musical skills slide effortlessly from blues to classical, jazz to soul and more. A performer in-demand in Kona clubs and music venues, Bailey will release her premiere CD, “Honestly,” this year.

As if exposure to Binti’s music wasn’t enough, Uncorked guests can savor food tastings from the “izakaya-style” menu of Monstera, European flavors of The Blue Room, upscale vegan cuisine from Under the Bodhi Tree, contemporary island style by Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar, and the traditional sizzle of Ruth’s Chris Steak House.

In addition, acclaimed Kohala Coast restaurants will share samples of their specialties, including Mai Grille by Chef Allen Hess, Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill, Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, Sushi Shiono, Pueo’s Osteria, The Fairmont Orchid and others, with libations by Southern Wine & Spirits, Kona Brewing Company and more.

Uncorked attendees also get the chance to bid for bargains in the upscale silent auction, featuring wine tours and travel packages, golf, dining, island adventures and beautiful items from the The Shops’ stores. Waikoloa Market Update ~ October 2017   Leave a comment

Aloha and happy Monday to you! The Waikoloa market is going strong with slightly more than 3% appreciation in the last 3-months, click here for: Full Market Report, over the previous three (click here for: homes sold in that period).

The previous three included several bank owned homes to lower the average price. Inventory is still limited. There are more buyers than inventory. Buyers today are less likely to invest sweat equity, preferring a home in good condition, ready to move in and priced at market. Homes within these parameters will sell in days to buyers waiting for the right home at the right price. Not a bubble market where everything sells at any price. You can see this reflected in the full report that shows homes overpriced or in poor condition still languishing on the market. Saw some new homes finished well that did not seem grossly overpriced finally sell when the price was lowered to the market value. There are a lot of buyers who are patient and exercising good judgement. Banks continue to expand their loan programs to be more accessible to a wider range of buyers while adhering to conservative lending practices. No funny money if you can breathe loans!

Rental market remains very tight and monthly rental rates continue to rise. Average rent in Waikoloa now hovers between $2,000-$2,500 per month. Unemployment is very low with a strong construction and high visitor counts. There is a labor shortage in many sectors and lack of rentals discourages new labor sources.

There are developers starting to move on purchasing shovel ready projects or dusting off their plans to get ready to start building more homes. The Vista Waikoloa project is an appealing project of around 30 or so homes starting around $600,000. It is another Town home project with good design and finishes.

Ainamalu at Waikoloa Beach Resort is a very attractively priced community for resort homes. It is a green development offering photovoltaic power, propane farm piping gas to the homes (rare to have this set up on the Big Island) and eco-friendly construction. No great views but beaches within walking and biking distance is a big draw as are the Greenways throughout the neighborhood. The soon to be built community center is pretty WOW. They are moving forward with construction steadily and expect to start delivering completed homes soon. Demand is very solid for this project.

Opened in 1981, the Robert Trent Jones II-designed Beach Course is Big Island Golf at its finest. A classic resort-style layout, it won’t beat you up with length, better players will appreciate the strategic shot values required, and everyone will thrill at its beauty. But what makes the Beach Course one of the most popular on Hawaii Island is the amazing views, particularly as players reach No. 7 tee box. The Pacific Ocean is straight before you, while lava fields border the fairway on the left and right. A good tee ball should find the wide fairway, but beware, the wind can blow harder here by the shoreline than elsewhere on the course, so aim wisely.

🔸Kings’ Course
Waikoloa Beach Resort Golf reaches a crescendo at the Kings’ Course, which delivers a memorable round from the first tee to the 18th green. It is a “player’s course” in the sense that low-handicappers can tee it up from 7,000-plus yards and have all the length and strategy they can handle; while mid- and high-handicap players can select a tee that will provide the same excitement and challenge, but at a length that suites their game. Designers Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish crafted a Scottish links-style layout at the Kings’ Course.
